Team K&G Sticking With Family for 2014

Gloria (aka Dr. G) and I have big plans for 2014. A lot of things are staying the same, but we’re also making some big changes.

First, we can officially say that we are continuing with Wattie Ink. We love this team. With so many great people it’s become a family and it’s great meeting up with teammates when we travel.

The team also has an incredible group of sponsors, including Spidertech, PowerBar, Speedfil, ISM, Blue Seventy, Reynolds Wheels, 454 Tattoo, and Hypoxico Training Systems. New this year are Herbalife 24, TriBike Transport, and Rudy Project. Finally, the team will once again focus on the Wildflower Triathlon and on the Revolution3.

It is also a safe bet that you will see the W everywhere at Mont-Tremblant for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships and at Kona for the Ironman World Championships. With the 2014 squad, this seriously fast group of people just faster.

For our big races, we loved racing in the heat and humidity of the Woodlands so much that we decided to return to Ironman Texas. We also decided to head back to Ironman 70.3 Vineman. It’s a great race on a beautiful, challenging course and it’s right next door. We did well last year, with Gloria finishing 14th in her first age group in her first Ironman and me finishing 15th after overcoming injury. However, we really wanted to improve. We have talked about coaching for at least a couple years and we finally decided to go with TriMarni Coaching and Nutrition.

Gloria has been Marni’s sports psychology coach for a couple years now and we’ve come to know her, her husband Karel, and their coaching philosophy quite well. Their “train hard, recover harder” philosophy fits with our goals of not only getting to Ironman Texas stronger and faster, but also getting there healthy. They also know us. They understand our strengths and weaknesses and where we need to improve. While I grew up on a swim team and Gloria grew up playing soccer, this is our first time working with triathlon coaches. I am also training with a power meter for the first time. We’re really enjoying the training and feel we will only improve from last year.

Stay tuned for updates here, on Twitter, and on Facebook, with more on training, racing, and more.
