About Me

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.

I have been practicing law since 2003. I took my first full-time position out of law school in 2004 with a boutique water law firm in Chico, California, where I represented irrigation and water districts in issues regarding water rights, water quality, and environmental compliance. I have litigated multiple cases, notably those involving the California Environmental Quality Act, the Clean Water Act, the Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act, and the Magnusson-Stevens Fishery Conservation Act.  I currently provide legal counsel for Sacramento-area non-profits, including the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates and WalkSacramento, on issues regarding nonprofit governance, transportation, environmental law, and land use.

As a triathlete, I grew up a swimmer and took up running after college. In 2007, I bought a road bike and, at the urging of friends, competed in my first triathlon, the City of Gold Triathlon at Lake Oroville. I was instantly hooked and spent the summer competing in sprint and Olympic distance triathlons. I went on to compete in many more triathlon events, including sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, Alcatraz, the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Clearwater, and Ironman Texas. You can check out my results on Athlinks.com.

In 2008, my life changed forever when I met Gloria (TriathleteDrG). We have been joined at the hip ever since. She is a clinical psychologist and sport psychologist, as well as a triathlete. We live an active life as both triathletes and runners.

Along the way we adopted Frida, a pug/Chihuahua mix (also known as a “chug”).

As a member of the community, I served on the Board of Directors of Chico County Day School. In 2010 I took the lead in forming the Chico Triathlon Club, drawing on my connections within the local endurance sports community to develop partnerships with local business and race organizations, form a board of directors, establish the club as a non-profit corporation, bring new people into the sport, and mentor new athletes. I currently serve as President of the Board of Directors of the Davis Aquatic Masters.

  1. I am with the Rincon Triathlon Club in Ventura, Ca and we need a set of bylaws. I could not find the USAT article you referenced on your blog. Could you possibly share a copy of the bylaws created for the Chico Tri Club? Thank you!
